Watchfield is rich in historical and pre-historical heritage, boasting a mention in the Domesday Book (sections can be downloaded from the national archive website at: www.nationalarchives.gov.uk) and a large archeological survey from 1983-1992, performed under the direction of Professor C. Scull.
From the Domesday Report of Norman Britain it is apparent that Watchfield was worth in the region of £14-15.
